8 1st August 2008

The last day on camp saw another full kit inspection and camp games such as tug of war. Of course there were important things to do like taking down the tents which the young people did and cleaning the toilets that the Scouters (Bones) did.

After the Cubs and Scouts left at 5pm the leaders and a few other happy helpers worked taking the rest of the camp down and transporting the equipment back to the HQ. All went home at about 8pm for well deserved bath or shower.

8 31st July 2008

Cubs and Scouts went on a hike today and cooked lunch over an open fire in the woods. Both successfully cooked burgers and eat Banana and chocolate.

Two campers had a birthday today and a party to go with it. Lillium and Steve the Scout Leader both enjoyed cakes, cards and presents. The Group also played map Bingo, which saw some cheating and some unusual map symbols.

8 30th July 2008

Wednesday after PT and a full kit inspection, we were invaded by Beaver Scouts who joined in the fun. There were a number of different activities run including a string trail and leaky pipes.

In the evening the Group held its Annual General Meeting and a campfire was run, many group friends and supporters attended, although our president the Duke of Norfolk was unable to attend due to flu.

8 29th July 2008

Today was for some the highlight of the week. The Group went on a coach trip to Brownsea Island in Poole Harbour in Dorset.

Departing at about 8.30am the coach drove us to Sandbanks in Poole where we all caught the ferry to the Island.

Apart from of course the island beauty the main focus of the trip was to visit the site of the first ever Scout camp, held there in July/August 1907.

After a short walk which took in the visitors centre and for some a glimpse of Red Squirrels we arrived at the stone that marked the 1907 camp. Photos were taken.

We visited the well stocked but crowded gift shop, then the Group made its way to the site of the first camp,  but we were beaten there by some toilet tents??? More photos.

We then went on a "short" walk back to the ferry, however it turned into a long march as we took the wrong path. This route however was very picturesque and all enjoyed the hike.

After travelling back on the ferry we waited in the wind for the coach to arrive back and take us back to the campsite.

8 28th July 2008

Today the Cubs and the Scouts got stuck into a variety of activities around the theme of map reading to work towards some of their badges. Whilst the Scouts took bearings from the top of the hill the Cubs went on a orienteering route.

In the afternoon the Cubs and Scouts took part in another round of activities.

8 27th July 2008

After an early start for the leaders finishing off the preparations for camp 35 Cubs and Scouts arrived at the campsite from 9am.

Following pitching tents and settling in the young people took part in a number of activities including grass sledging, Ariel runway and air rifle shooting. Also during the day the District Chaplain and good fried of 1st Arundel Rev Philip Tout performed a very entertaining Scouts own service.

Being the first night the Cubs and Scouts took some time to go to sleep.

8 26th July 2008

The Leaders and some of the parents set up the summer camp at Offham in part of the Arundel Park estate. Following the hard days preparations the leaders retire to the Black Rabbit for a meal.
